A Service Club For Our West-Island Community
Greetings from the officers and members of the Rotary Club of Montreal Lakeshore
Chartered on February 27th, 1961, we are Rotarians working together for the benefit of our community, and in support of the international community service initiatives of Rotary International and the Rotary Foundation
Service and Fellowship. While we enjoy meeting and getting to know a lot of people and each other, an incredible synergy is created among our members, which allows us to help a lot of people in our West-Island community, including NOVA West Island, West Island Women’s Shelter, Cheshire home for the handicapped, The West Island Palliative Care Residence, and many others. We also help in other less fortunate areas of the world: We have created potable water wells for several African villages, in Kenya, Swaziland and Burundi, a school library, a demonstration farm, and funded the extension of electrical power lines to a Kenyan village and now we are working on projects in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and in Madagascar. As for our future generations, we promote excellence in the youth of our community and offer them wonderful opportunities to learn more about this great country of ours. We hold our annual public speaking contest with a very generous bursary. We send and receive Rotary Young Exchange students to and from the rest of the world. One of our students is presently studying in Taiwan! We offer week-long RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) training camps and we sponsor students’ participation in a variety of “Adventures” in Citizenship, High-Technology, History and the Environment
We are proud to be members of the world’s oldest service club. Founded in 1905, we are associated with the strong record of local and international community service. Further information on Rotary, its history and its record can be found through Rotary International.
