Adventure in High Technology

The Latest:  Summary of Chaitanya Varier’s experience on the Adventure in High Tech.   The Adventure in High Technology organized by the Rotary Club of Nepean-Kanata is an excellent program that exposes students interested in the field of technology and science to cutting edge industry projects and research. It also acquaints students with the work of many professionals in the technology industry and gives the opportunity to get a glimpse of the workplaces involved in high-tech professions. This year I was very fortunate to have been sponsored by the Montreal-Lakeshore Rotary Club. During the course of the three days of the program, we were given the opportunity to visit multiple universities, businesses and Invest Ottawa, a small business support agency. One such notable university visit was to the University of Ottawa, where we were given the opportunity to attend a cancer clinic and engage in a hands on medical experiment to explain the mechanism of the AIDS virus.  A business visit we made was to InGenius software, a software company specializing in computer-telephony integration software. This was a very valuable experience for me, as I myself plan on pursuing software engineering in university and eventually starting my own software company. It also gave me an idea of what the typical workplace at a software firm is like. The visit to Invest Ottawa was one of the main highlights of the program, as it gave us testimonials from genuine, established entrepreneurs in the high technology industry. One business that was a focus of the program was Gnowit, a media monitoring and analytics company. One of its co-founders, Mohammad-Al Azzouni, had given a very interesting presentation on becoming a successful entrepreneur at the final dinner banquet in the program. All in all, the adventure was a great experience, and helped reaffirm my goal of being a software engineer and entrepreneur, as it opened my eyes to the vast potential and future of the high technology sector in Canada.
